Amba–Rama–Bhishma Dialogue on Vow and Refuge
ko jātu parabhāvāṁ hi nārīṁ vyālīm iva sthitām | vāsayet gṛhe jānan strīṇāṁ doṣo mahātyayaḥ ||
The verse warns that knowingly accommodating a spouse or partner who is emotionally/sexually attached elsewhere invites grave harm; it frames fidelity and prudent household governance as ethical duties, using the metaphor of a dangerous she-serpent to stress risk and distrust.
Rāma speaks in an admonitory tone, offering a moral judgment about the danger posed by a woman devoted to another man and arguing that no sensible householder would knowingly keep such a person within his home because it leads to serious misfortune.
