Decision on Command and the Pandavas’ March to Kurukshetra
पुनर्भेदश्न मे युक्तो यदा साम न गृहाते । कर्मानुकीर्तनं चैव देवमानुषसंहितम्
punarbhedaś ca me yukto yadā sāma na gṛhyate | karmānukīrtanaṃ caiva devamānuṣasaṃhitam ||
لما لم تُقبَل سياستي في المصالحة، لجأتُ عندئذٍ إلى حيلة التفريق. وكنتُ أُعيد مرارًا ذكر أعمال الباندافا—أفعالًا تليق بالآلهة وبالرجال النبلاء—ليُعرَف فضلهم واستقامتهم على طريق الدارما معرفةً جليّة.
वायुदेव उवाच
When peaceful persuasion (sāma) fails, one may shift to another political strategy (here, bheda—creating divisions), while still grounding one’s argument in ethical exemplars by highlighting the righteous deeds of the virtuous (the Pāṇḍavas).
Vāyudeva explains his change of approach: since conciliation was not accepted, he adopted a divisive tactic and repeatedly described the Pāṇḍavas’ godlike and noble human actions to influence attitudes and decisions.
