Udyoga Parva, Chapter 140
Krishna’s appraisal of Pandava advantage and war portents
mātulo bhīmasenasya śyenajic ca mahārathaḥ | śaṅkhaḥ putro virāṭasya nidhis tvaṃ ca janārdana mādhava janārdana ||
The verse underscores the political-ethical idea that legitimate sovereignty (rājya) is secured not merely by force but by dharmic alignment and strong, righteous alliances; Kṛṣṇa’s support is portrayed as an inexhaustible ‘treasure’ that stabilizes Yudhiṣṭhira’s claim.
In Udyoga Parva’s pre-war negotiations and assessments, Karna enumerates key allies on the Pāṇḍava side—Śyenajit, Śaṅkha, and especially Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana/Mādhava)—to emphasize that with such support Yudhiṣṭhira is poised to hold dominion over the earth and the Kuru realm.
