Svargārohaṇa-parva Adhyāya 5 — Karmaphala-Nirdeśa and Phalāśruti (कर्मफलनिर्देशः फलश्रुतिश्च)
kārṣṇa vedaṃ imaṃ sarvaṃ śṛṇuyād yaḥ samāhitaḥ | brahmahatyādipāpānāṃ koṭis tasya vinaśyati ||
Attentive, concentrated listening to sacred instruction is presented as a potent means of inner purification, capable of destroying even vast accumulations of grave sins; the ethical emphasis is on samādhāna—mental composure and sincerity in receiving dharma.
Vaiśaṃpāyana, continuing his recitation, praises the fruit (phalaśruti) of hearing this ‘Kārṣṇa-Veda’ in full: the listener who is mentally focused gains cleansing from heavy demerit, highlighting the sanctity and authority of the discourse being transmitted.
