अरण्यवृत्ति-वैराग्योपदेशः | Forest Discipline and the Program of Non-Attachment
एवमारण्यशास्त्राणामुग्रमुग्रतरं विधिम् । सेवमान: प्रतीक्षिष्ये देहस्यास्य समापनम्
evam āraṇyaśāstrāṇām ugram ugrataraṁ vidhim | sevamānaḥ pratīkṣiṣye dehasyāsya samāpanam ||
وهكذا، ملتزماً بأشدّ الرياضات—بل بما هو أشدّ فأشدّ—التي قرّرتها الشاسترا لنسّاك الغابة، سأنتظر انقضاء أمد هذا الجسد. وفي هذا العزم يصوغ يودهيشثيرا الصبرَ وكبحَ النفس جواباً أخلاقياً وفق الدارما: لا فراراً، بل قبولاً مقصوداً للتقشّف حتى تنتهي الحياة على سُنّتها الطبيعية.
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse teaches steadfast adherence to prescribed dharma through austerity and restraint: one should follow the disciplined path appropriate to one’s chosen life-stage or vow, enduring hardship without impatience, and accept the natural end of life without forcing it.
Yudhiṣṭhira speaks of his resolve to live by the strict rules laid down for forest-dwelling ascetics, committing himself to severe observances and to patiently await the completion of his bodily lifespan.
