Purohita-Niyoga and the Brahma–Kṣatra Concord
Aila–Kaśyapa Saṃvāda
pūrvaṁ hi brāhmaṇaḥ sṛṣṭir iti brahmavido viduḥ | jyeṣṭhenābhijanena asya prāptaṁ pūrvaṁ yad uttaram ||
The verse asserts a traditional claim: those regarded as brahmavids maintain that the Brāhmaṇa was created first, and from that precedence and noble lineage follows a social-ethical principle of first claim over what is considered ‘foremost’ or ‘excellent’.
Kāśyapa is presenting an authoritative, tradition-based argument about social precedence, appealing to the testimony of ‘knowers of Brahman’ to justify why the Brāhmaṇa is said to have priority in matters of honor and the best share.
