Daṇḍanīti and the King as the Cause of Yuga-Order (दण्डनीतिः राजधर्मश्च युगकारणत्वम्)

यदि राजा दण्डनीतिका उत्तम रीतिसे प्रयोग करे तो वह चारों वर्णोकी अपने-अपने धर्ममें बलपूर्वक लगाती है और उन्हें अधर्मकी ओर जानेसे रोक देती है ।।

cāturvarṇye svakarmasthe maryādānām asaṅkare | daṇḍanītikṛte kṣeme prajānām akuto bhaye ||

قال بهيشما: إذا أحسن الملك تطبيق «دانْدَنيتي» (daṇḍanīti)، علم العقوبة وسياسة الحكم، فإنه يثبت الطبقات الأربع (الفَرْنات) في واجباتها الخاصة بقوة، ويكفّها عن الميل إلى الأدهرما. وهكذا، بفاعلية دانْدَنيتي، حين يلازم أهل الفَرْنات الأربع أعمالهم اللائقة ولا تختلط حدود الدهرما، يعيش الناس في أمن—لا خوف عليهم من أي جهة ومعهم الرخاء. وفي مثل هذه الحال، يجتهد أصحاب المراتب الثلاث من «ذوي الميلاد الثاني» (dvija) وفق القاعدة في صون الصحة والعافية. يا يودهيشثيرا، في هذا تكمن سعادة البشر؛ فاعلم ذلك.
