न सैनिकैश्नव यातव्यं यास्थामो वयमेव हि । न च पीडयिततव्यो मे भीष्मो धर्मभूतां वर:
na sainikaiḥ na vā yātavyaṃ yāsthāmo vayam eva hi | na ca pīḍayitavyo me bhīṣmo dharmabhūtāṃ varaḥ ||
قال يودهيشثيرا: «لا ينبغي أن نمضي مع قوّةٍ مسلّحة؛ بل نمضي نحن وحدنا. ولا يجوز أن يُؤذى بِهيشْمَة—وهو الأوّل بين الراسخين في الدَّرْمَة—أو يُزعَج بسببي».
युधिछिर उवाच
Even in victory and power, one should act with restraint and compassion: do not display force unnecessarily, and do not cause further suffering to a venerable person devoted to dharma.
In the Śānti Parva context, Yudhiṣṭhira is preparing to approach Bhīṣma (lying on the bed of arrows) for counsel; he insists they should not go with an armed retinue and that Bhīṣma should not be disturbed or burdened because of him.
