Bhīṣma on the Śara-Śayyā: Yudhiṣṭhira and Kṛṣṇa Approach the Eldest for Śānti
ये च केचन लोके<स्मिन्नर्था: संशयकारका: । तेषां छेत्ता नास्ति लोके त्वदन्य: पुरुषर्षभ,'पुरुषप्रवर! संसारमें जो कोई संदेहग्रस्त विषय हैं, उनका समाधान करनेवाला आपके सिवा दूसरा कोई नहीं है
ye ca kecana loke 'sminn arthāḥ saṃśayakārakāḥ | teṣāṃ chettā nāsti loke tvadanyaḥ puruṣarṣabha ||
قال فايشَمبايانا: «مهما تكن الأمور في هذا العالم مما يثير الشك والحيرة، فلا أحد هنا يقطعها ويزيل التباسها إلا أنت، يا ثور الرجال.»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes the ethical value of clear discernment: when dharma and practical aims become doubtful, guidance from a uniquely competent and trustworthy authority is essential to remove confusion and restore right understanding.
Vaiśampāyana, narrating the discourse of the Śānti Parva, praises the addressed listener/teacher as unparalleled in resolving doubts, setting up or reinforcing a moment of instruction where difficult questions about conduct and duty are to be clarified.
