Yudhiṣṭhira’s Post-Accession Settlements and Approach to Vāsudeva (युधिष्ठिरस्य राज्यस्थापनं वासुदेवाभिगमनं च)
तथा<नुजीविनो भृत्यान् संश्रितानतिथीनपि । कामै: संतर्पयामास कृपणांस्तर्ककानपि
tathānujīvino bhṛtyān saṁśritān atithīn api | kāmaiḥ santarpayāmāsa kṛpaṇāṁs tarkakān api ||
وكذلك أرضى بما يُشتهى من أسباب النعمة والتمتّع مَن كانوا يعتمدون على نفقته من الأتباع والخدم، ومن لجؤوا إلى حماه، والضيوف الذين يفدون عليه. وأشبع حاجة الفقراء والمكروبين، بل ورضّى أيضًا أهل الجدل ومجيبي المسائل—كالمُنَجّمين والمفسّرين—ممن كان يُستشار.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights rājadharma expressed through generosity: a householder/king should sustain dependents, honor guests, protect those who seek refuge, and relieve the poor—ensuring social stability and moral order through timely, appropriate giving.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that the central figure (the patron/king being described) distributes enjoyable provisions and support to various groups—servants and dependents, refugees, guests, the destitute, and professional advisers—thereby fulfilling obligations of hospitality, protection, and charity.
