Educational Q&A

The verse asserts rightful sovereignty and refuge: a true ruler/protector is the ‘nātha’ of the world, and legitimate authority over the earth and its people rests with him. Ethically, it frames kingship as guardianship rather than mere possession.

Vaiśampāyana, narrating the events of Śānti Parva, identifies a particular figure as the universal protector and affirms that the whole earth and all the Pāṇḍavas are under his rightful lordship/charge, reinforcing political and moral legitimacy after the war.
