Āścarya-kathana: Brāhmaṇa–Nāga Dialogue on Sūrya (Vivasvat) and the ‘Second Sun’ Phenomenon
त्रेतायुगादौ च ततो विवस्वान् मनवे ददौ । मनुश्न लोकभूत्यर्थ सुतायेक्ष्वाकवे ददौ,फिर त्रेतायुगके आरम्भमें सूर्यने मनुको और मनुने सम्पूर्ण जगत्के कल्याणके लिये अपने पुत्र इक्ष्वाकुको इसका उपदेश दिया
tretāyugādau ca tato vivasvān manave dadau | manuś ca lokabhūtyarthaṁ sutāyekṣvākave dadau ||
قال فَيْشَمْبَايَنَة: «ثم في مطلع عصر التريتَا (Tretā-yuga) لقَّنَ فيفَسْفَان (إله الشمس) هذا التعليمَ لِمَنُو؛ ومَنُو، ابتغاءَ خيرِ العالمِ كلِّه، علَّمه لابنه إِكْشْفَاكُو».
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Dharma-knowledge is preserved and made effective by being transmitted through a trustworthy lineage, and it should be taught with the intention of lokabhūti—universal welfare—rather than personal advantage.
Vaiśampāyana recounts an ancient chain of instruction: the Sun-god Vivasvān teaches Manu at the start of the Tretā-yuga, and Manu then teaches his son Ikṣvāku for the benefit of all beings, establishing a royal-dharma lineage.
