Nāgendra–Brāhmaṇa Saṃvāda: Praśna-vidhi and Dharmic Approach on the Gomatī Riverbank
त्वया विनिर्मितो<हं वै वेदचक्षुर्वयोतिग: । ते मे वेदा हताश्चक्षुरन्धो जातो5स्मि जागृहि
tvayā vinirmito'haṃ vai vedacakṣur vayotigaḥ | te me vedā hatāś cakṣur andho jāto'smi jāgṛhi ||
قال فَيْشَمْبَايَنَة: «أنتَ الذي صغتَني حقًّا، فجعلتَ “عينيَّ” هما الفيدا، وجاوزتَ بي وهنَ الشيخوخة. أمّا الآن فقد دُمِّرت فيداتي، وضُرِبت بصيرتي فسقطت. لقد صرتُ أعمى—فاستيقظ، انهض، وأعد إليَّ ما فقدتُه».
वैशग्पायन उवाच
The verse frames sacred knowledge as true ‘vision’: when Vedic learning is lost or destroyed, one becomes ethically and spiritually ‘blind’. It also implies responsibility in transmission—one who grants knowledge is urged to reawaken and restore it.
A speaker laments that he was once made ‘Veda-eyed’ and beyond the weakness of age through another’s agency, but now his Vedic knowledge and thus his sight are ruined; he urgently calls upon that person to awaken and remedy the loss.
