Śvetadvīpa-varṇana and Śāstra-pravartana (Śānti Parva 322)

सुशीघ्रमपि धावन्तं विधानमनुधावति । शेते सह शयानेन येन येन यथा कृतम्‌

suśīghram api dhāvantaṃ vidhānam anudhāvati | śete saha śayānena yena yena yathā kṛtam ||

قال بهيشما: حتى لو ركض الإنسان بأقصى سرعة، فإن العاقبة المقدَّرة لأفعاله تركض وراءه. إذا اضطجع للنوم اضطجعت معه؛ وأينما مضى، وبأي هيئةٍ كان قد عمل، ظلَّ ثمر ذلك العمل مربوطًا به. وهكذا لا يهجر الكارما فاعله—كظلٍّ يتبعه في الراحة والحركة وكل مسعى—معلِّمًا أن السببية الأخلاقية لا مفرّ منها، وأن المسؤولية الشخصية لا تُسبق بالفرار.
