Ātma-saṃyama-dharma: One-pointedness of Mind and Senses (शुक–व्यास संवादः)

आयुषस्तु चतुर्भागं ब्रह्मचार्यनसूयक: । गुरौ वा गुरुपुत्रे वा वसेद्‌ धर्मार्थकोविद:,द्विजके बालकको चाहिये कि ब्रह्मचर्यका पालन करते हुए गुरु अथवा मुरुपुत्रकी सेवामें अपनी आयुके एक चौथाई भाग अर्थात्‌ पच्चीस वर्षोतक रहे। वहाँ रहते हुए किसीके दोष न देखे। ऐसा करनेवाला ब्रह्मचारी धर्म और अर्थके ज्ञानमें कुशल होता है

āyuṣas tu caturbhāgaṃ brahmacāry anasūyakaḥ | gurau vā guruputre vā vased dharmārthakovidaḥ ||

قال فياسا: «على فتى الدِّوِجَة أن يحفظ البراهمتشَرْيَة، غير متتبّعٍ لعيوب الناس، وأن يقيم في خدمة معلّمه—أو في خدمة ابن المعلّم—ربعَ عمره. وبإقامته هناك على الانضباط والخدمة، يصير البراهمتشاري حاذقًا في فهم الدارما والأرثا.»
