Manu’s Instruction on Elemental Origination, Sense-Withdrawal, and Discrimination of the Supreme Nature

yaḥ karoty anabhisaṃdhi-pūrvakaṃ tac ca nirṇudati yat purākṛtam | nāpriyaṃ tad ubhayaṃ kutaḥ priyaṃ tasya taj janayatīha sarvataḥ ||

Educational Q&A

Action performed without ulterior motive (anabhisaṃdhi) and without attachment to results weakens and dispels the binding force of previously accumulated karma; such karma no longer yields either painful or pleasant fruits for the detached agent.

In the Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma and liberation, Bhishma teaches the listener that desireless, non-appropriative action undermines karmic bondage, so past and present deeds cease to generate binding consequences.
