दूरगं बहुधागामि प्रार्थनासंशयात्मकम् । मन: सुनियतं यस्य स सुखी प्रेत्य चेह च
dūragaṁ bahudhāgāmi prārthanā-saṁśayātmakaṁ | manaḥ suniyataṁ yasya sa sukhī pretya ceha ca ||
قال بهيشما: إنّ من كانت نفسه—قلقةً، تجري بعيدًا، وتتيه نحو أشياء كثيرة، تسوقها الشهوة وتمزّقها الشكوك—قد كُفَّت كفًّا شديدًا وأُحسن تدبيرها، كان سعيدًا في هذه الحياة، وسعيدًا بعد الموت في العالم الآخر.
भीष्म उवाच
Happiness in both this life and the next depends on mastering the mind. When the mind that habitually runs after many objects—powered by craving and destabilized by doubt—is brought under steady control, one gains lasting well-being.
In Shanti Parva, Bhishma instructs Yudhishthira on dharma and the means to peace after the war. Here he emphasizes inner governance: the disciplined mind is presented as the decisive factor for a good life and a good post-mortem destiny.
