मनु-उपदेशः — भूत-उत्पत्ति, इन्द्रिय-निवृत्ति, तथा पर-स्वभाव-विवेकः

Manu’s Instruction on Elemental Origination, Sense-Withdrawal, and Discrimination of the Supreme Nature

अतिभावगता बुद्धिर्भावे मनसि वर्तते । प्रवर्तमानं तु रजस्तद्भावमनुवर्तते

atibhāvagatā buddhir bhāve manasi vartate | pravartamānaṁ tu rajas tadbhāvam anuvartate ||

قال بهيشما: حتى بعد أن يتجاوز المرءُ الحالات الغليظة من الشعور، فإنّ العقلَ الذي دخل تلك الحالات يظلّ مقيمًا في الذهن على نحوٍ لطيف بوصفه نزعةً كامنة. ثم إذا نهض من الاستغراق العميق، بدأت قوةُ الرَّجَس (rajas) —طاقة القلق والحركة— تعمل، وتتبع تلك النزعة نفسها؛ مُظهِرةً كيف يمكن للانطباعات الكامنة أن تعود فتفرض نفسها ما لم تُقهر قهرًا تامًّا.

Therefore, ethical and yogic discipline must address not only outward conduct but also subtle tendencies.
