Apaddharma Determination: Dialogue of Viśvāmitra and the Śvapaca

Saumya, cupa raho; tumheṃ jaldī nahīṃ karanī cāhiye, ghabarāne kī koī āvaśyakatā nahīṃ hai. Ahaṃ samayaṃ khūba pahacānatā hūṃ; ṭhīk avasara āne par maiṃ kabhī nahīṃ cūkūṅgā. Akāle kṛtyam ārabdhaṃ kartuḥ nārthāya kalpate; tad eva kāle ārabdhaṃ mahate ’rthāya kalpate.

Educational Q&A

Action must be guided by kāla (right timing) and composure: the same deed fails when begun untimely, but succeeds greatly when undertaken at the proper moment.

Bhishma, in a didactic tone, calms the listener and counsels restraint, emphasizing that he understands the proper moment and will act when the opportunity is ripe.
