Āpad-dharma and Discernment in Livelihood (आपद्धर्मे विज्ञानबलम्)
अश्वमेधैश्व यष्टव्यं बहुभि: स्वाप्तदक्षिणै: । तेन लोकानवाप्रोति पुरुषो5द्धभुतदर्शनान्
aśvamedhaiś ca yaṣṭavyaṃ bahubhiḥ svāptadakṣiṇaiḥ | tena lokān avāpnoti puruṣo ’dbhuta-darśanān ||
قال يَما: «وعليه أيضًا أن يقيم قرابين الأشفاميدها (Aśvamedha) مرارًا، على أن تُقرَن كلُّ واحدةٍ منها بدكشِنا (dakṣiṇā) من العطايا الكهنوتية تُمنَح على وجهٍ لائقٍ وكافٍ. وبهذا الفضل ينال المرء عوالم مباركة تفيض بمشاهد عجيبة.»
यम उवाच
The verse links royal ritual duty with ethical giving: great sacrifices like the Aśvamedha are said to bear fruit only when accompanied by properly bestowed dakṣiṇā, leading to meritorious posthumous realms.
In a didactic discourse in Śānti Parva, Yama instructs about actions that yield auspicious results after death, here recommending multiple well-endowed Aśvamedha rites as a means to attain wondrous heavenly worlds.
