Gautama–Yama Saṃvāda: Mātṛ-Pitṛ-Ṛṇa (Debt to Parents) and Śubha-Loka Attainment
एतत् कारणसामर्थ्य श्रोतुमिच्छामि तत्त्वत: । भवन्तो5पि तपोनित्या ब्रूयुरेतत् समन्विता:,“यदि मेरे इस प्रश्नसे आपलोगोंकी तपस्यामें विघ्न पड़ रहा हो तो मैं इससे विराम लेता हूँ और यदि आपके पास बातचीतका समय हो तो जो प्रश्न मैंने उपस्थित किया है, इसका आप समाधान करें। मैं इस आशाके कारण और सामर्थ्यके विषयमें ठीक-ठीक सुनना चाहता हूँ। आपलोग भी सदा तपमें संलग्न रहनेवाले हैं; अतः एकत्र होकर इस प्रश्नका विवेचन करें”
etad kāraṇa-sāmarthyaṁ śrotum icchāmi tattvataḥ | bhavanto 'pi tapo-nityā brūyur etat samanvitāḥ ||
قال بهيشما: «أريد أن أسمع على الحقيقة وبتمام البيان عن هذه العلّة وعن قوّتها المؤثّرة. وأنتم أيضًا مواظبون على الزهد والرياضة؛ فاجتمعوا متّفقين وبيّنوا لي هذا الأمر. إن كانت مسألتي تُقلق نسككم كففتُ عنها، وإن كان ثمّة متّسعٌ للحديث فافصلوا الشكّ الذي أثرتُه.»

Bhishma, speaking respectfully to ascetic interlocutors, asks them to explain the true nature of a particular cause and its power. He adds that if his questions interrupt their austerities he will stop, but if they have time, they should confer together and resolve his doubt.
