A brief, disciplined observance at a tīrtha—especially an overnight stay with concentrated mind and a purifying bath—is presented as a powerful dharmic act whose fruit extends beyond this life, granting access to rare meritorious realms after death.
In Vaiśaṃpāyana’s narration of the tīrtha-mahātmya within Śalya Parva, the sanctity and rewards of a particular pilgrimage site are being described, promising exceptional posthumous attainments to one who performs the prescribed stay and bath with focused intent.
