The verse frames the Mātṛkās as auspicious cosmic powers whose presence pervades and safeguards the three worlds in an ordered, apportioned way; learning and reciting their names is presented as a reverential act that aligns one with protective, dharmic forces.
Vaiśampāyana addresses Janamejaya and introduces a forthcoming list: he asks the listener to hear the names of the renowned Mother-goddesses, describing them as beneficent deities who pervade the three worlds according to distinct divisions.
