शल्यपर्व — चतुर्विंशोऽध्यायः | Śalya Parva, Chapter 24: Disruption of Kaurava Formations and the Elephant Encirclement

अनेकरूपाकृतिभिहिं बाणै- महारथानीकमनुप्रविश्य । स एवैकस्तव पुत्रस्य सेनां जघान दैत्यानिव वज्रपाणि:,जैसे वज्रधारी इन्द्र दैत्योंका संहार कर डालते हैं, उसी प्रकार एकमात्र अर्जुनने ही रथियोंकी विशाल सेनामें प्रवेश करके अनेक रूप-रंगवाले बाणोंद्वारा आपके पुत्रकी सेनाका विनाश कर दिया

sañjaya uvāca |

anekarūpākṛtibhir hi bāṇair mahārathānīkam anupraviśya |

sa evaikaḥ tava putrasya senāṃ jaghāna daityān iva vajrapāṇiḥ ||

قال سنجيا: «إذ اقتحم الحشدَ العظيمَ من فرسانِ العرباتِ الجبابرة، وضرب بسهامٍ شتّى الأشكال والهيئات، دمّر أرجونا وحده جيشَ ابنِك—كما يقتل إندرا، حاملُ الصاعقة (الفَجْرَة/الڤَجْرَة)، الدايتيّين.»

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how concentrated skill and resolve can overwhelm sheer numbers, while also reminding the listener of the terrible cost of war: even vast armies can be shattered when dharma, destiny, and superior prowess converge.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Arjuna penetrated the dense formation of great chariot-warriors and, using many kinds of arrows, single-handedly devastated the army fighting for Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s son, likening Arjuna’s slaughter to Indra’s destruction of the Daityas.
