Śālva’s Elephant Assault and the Counterstroke (शाल्वस्य नागारूढाभ्यवहारः)
yeṣāṃ ca jagatīnātho nāthaḥ kṛṣṇo janārdanaḥ | kathaṃ teṣāṃ jayo na syād yeṣāṃ dharmo vyapāśrayaḥ ||

Victory is portrayed as the natural outcome when two supports coincide: reliance on Dharma (righteous conduct and just cause) and the guardianship of Kṛṣṇa, the world-lord. The verse frames success not merely as military strength but as moral alignment reinforced by divine guidance.
Sañjaya, reporting the events of the Kurukṣetra war to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, reflects on why the side protected by Kṛṣṇa and grounded in Dharma cannot be denied victory. It is a rhetorical affirmation of the Pāṇḍavas’ destined triumph in the Shalya Parva context.
