Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report

dhig astu kṛtavarmāṇaṁ māṁ kṛpaṁ ca mahāratham

Educational Q&A

Even in war, actions can be judged against dharma; this line voices moral condemnation and self-implication, highlighting accountability and the sense that certain deeds—especially those seen as treacherous or ignoble—bring disgrace.

During the Sauptika Parva’s aftermath of the night events, Sañjaya reports a reaction of censure: he denounces Kṛtavarmā and Kṛpa and includes himself in the blame, signaling that what occurred is viewed as shameful despite the wartime setting.
