वैशमग्पायन उवाच
The verse foregrounds how moral catastrophe reverberates through a community: in moments of adharma and humiliation, the afflicted seek guidance from elders. It highlights the ethical role of counsel, shared mourning, and the search for meaning and right action when social order has been violated.
After someone has departed (contextually, following the grievous events in the assembly and subsequent developments), Draupadī—deeply distressed—goes to Kuntī and questions her. Other women present also ask, collectively expressing sorrow and seeking understanding and direction.
