कार्तिकस्य तु मासस्य प्रवृत्तं प्रथमेडहनि । अनाहार दिवारात्रमविश्रान्तमवर्तत,कार्तिक मासके पहले दिन उन दोनोंका युद्ध प्रारम्भ हुआ और दिन-रात बिना खाये- पिये अविरामगतिसे चलता रहा
Kārtikasya tu māsasya pravṛttaṃ prathame 'hani | anāhāra-divārātram aviśrāntam avartata ||
في اليوم الأول من شهر كارتِيكا ابتدأ قتالُهما؛ ثم مضى متصلًا لا ينقطع—ليلًا ونهارًا—لا طعامَ ولا شرابَ ولا راحة. ويُبرز السرد عزيمةً ضاريةً وجهدًا لا يهدأ، يدفعان المحاربين إلى ما وراء حدود البشر المألوفة، مع إيماءةٍ أخلاقيةٍ خفيّة: إلى أي مدى قد يحمل السعيُ إلى الظفر صبرَ المرء وهوسَه؟
