जरासंध उवाच
Jarāsandha frames conflict in ethical terms: before accepting hostility, he demands a clear account of injury or wrongdoing. The verse highlights the dharmic expectation that enmity should have a discernible cause and that one should examine one’s own conduct for fault.
In the Jarāsandha–Kṛṣṇa dialogue (with Kṛṣṇa and companions approaching in a brāhmaṇa guise), Jarāsandha responds to their approach by claiming he remembers no prior feud with them and sees no offense he has committed against them, setting the stage for the challenge and ensuing confrontation.
