वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharma-shaped responses to loss: steadfast marital fidelity (seeking reunion in the husband’s realm) and disciplined renunciation (choosing tapas in the forest). Both are portrayed as intentional, resolute acts rather than impulsive grief.
After Kṛṣṇa’s departure and the collapse of the Yādava world, several of his principal wives—Rukmiṇī, Jāmbavatī and others—enter fire to attain patiloka, while Satyabhāmā and the remaining wives withdraw to the forest, determined to practice austerities.
