Omens in Dvārakā, Journey to Prabhāsa, and the Musala Outbreak
दुर्वाससा पायसोच्छिष्टलिप्ते यच्चाप्युक्ते तच्च सस्मार वाक्यम् | स चिन्तयन्नन्धकवृष्णिनाशं कुरुक्षयं चैव महानुभाव:,जूठी खीरको शरीरमें लगानेके समय दुर्वासाने जो बात कही थी उसका भी उन्हें स्मरण हो आया। फिर वे महानुभाव श्रीकृष्ण अन्धक, वृष्णि और कुरुकुलके विनाशकी बात सोचने लगे
durvāsasā pāyasocchiṣṭalipte yaccāpyukte tacca sasmāra vākyam | sa cintayann andhakavṛṣṇināśaṃ kurukṣayaṃ caiva mahānubhāvaḥ ||
قال فايشَمبايانا: حين لُطِّخت بقايا الأرزّ بالحليب على جسده، تذكّر كذلك الكلمات التي قالها دورفاسا في تلك المناسبة. ثم إنّ شري كريشنا، عظيم النفس، أخذ يتأمّل بعمق في الدمار الوشيك الذي سيصيب الأندهَكَة والڤِرِشْنِيّين، وكذلك خراب سلالة الكورو—مدركًا كيف يمكن لفعلٍ يبدو هيّنًا، إذا اقترن بقول ناسكٍ جليل، أن ينفتح على عواقب أخلاقية وتاريخية هائلة.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights moral causality: words spoken by a powerful ascetic and actions involving ritually charged substances (ucchiṣṭa) can become instruments through which destiny and karma unfold. It underscores vigilance in conduct and speech, and the Mahābhārata’s theme that great collective outcomes may arise from seemingly minor triggers.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Kṛṣṇa recalls Durvāsas’s earlier statement made when leftover milk-rice was smeared on the body. Remembering that utterance, Kṛṣṇa begins to contemplate the approaching annihilation of the Andhaka and Vṛṣṇi clans and the destruction of the Kuru line, foreshadowing the catastrophic end-events of the epic.
