Portents and Kāla among the Vṛṣṇis
tato bhojyaṃ ca bhakṣyaṃ ca peyaṃ cāndhakavṛṣṇayaḥ | bahu nānāvidhaṃ cakrur madyaṃ māṃsam anekaśaḥ ||
The verse highlights a setting of excess—especially liquor and indulgent fare—which, in the Mausala Parva, functions as an ethical warning: loss of restraint (dama) and heedlessness (pramāda) can precipitate collective ruin even for powerful lineages.
Vaiśaṃpāyana describes the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis arranging a large feast with many foods, drinks, liquor, and meats. This prepares the scene for the ensuing disorder and the tragic events that overtake the Yādavas.
