वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how intoxication and arrogance erode dharma: loss of self-control leads to disrespect in public, which escalates conflict. Ethically, it warns that speech driven by pride and drink can become the immediate cause of irreversible ruin.
In the Yādava assembly, Sātyaki (Yuyudhāna), drunk and aggressive, begins to mock and insult Kṛtavarmā. This public provocation is part of the chain of quarrels that will soon erupt into the internecine destruction of the Yādavas.
