sañjaya uvāca—rājan! yadā karṇo hataḥ śatrusenā ca palāyitā, tadā daśārhanandano bhagavān śrīkṛṣṇo ’rjunaṃ hṛdayena pariṣvajya mahāharṣeṇaivam uvāca—

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic companionship and moral gravity in warfare: even in victory, the righteous leader (Kṛṣṇa) responds with intimate support and measured joy, signaling relief after danger and the responsibility that follows decisive triumph.

After Karna’s death, the opposing forces lose cohesion and flee. Kṛṣṇa, identified by his clan epithet Daśārhanandana, embraces Arjuna and begins to speak—setting up the next lines that interpret the moment and its significance in the battle.
