The verse underscores the ethical gravity of war: sheer might and fearsome presence do not by themselves establish righteousness. By portraying Karna as ‘irresistible even to the gods,’ the text intensifies the question central to dharma-yuddha—how power, duty, and destiny interact when great warriors clash.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Karna is advancing toward the decisive encounter, roaring and appearing like the ocean overflowing its bounds. This is a dramatic prelude that signals the imminent confrontation and raises suspense about the outcome.
