Krishna’s Counsel, Arjuna’s Apology, and Authorization for Karṇa’s Slaying
ततो भीमो रणश्लाघी छादयामास पत्रिभि:
tato bhīmo raṇaślāghī chādayāmāsa patribhiḥ
قال سانجيا: ثم إنّ بهيما، المشهور ببأسه في ساحة القتال، أمطر خصمه بوابلٍ من السهام حتى غطّاه—صورةٌ لقوةٍ حربيةٍ لا تلين، حيث يُقاس الإقدام بالثبات والمهارة وسط مقتضيات حرب الدharma العادلة.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in practice: disciplined courage and effectiveness in battle. Ethical emphasis lies not in cruelty but in steadfast performance of one’s duty within the war’s code—valor expressed through skill and resolve.
Sanjaya reports that Bhima, celebrated for battlefield prowess, overwhelms his foe by covering him with arrows—depicting a decisive surge in combat where one warrior gains dominance through sustained missile attack.
