In the midst of fear and flight, a warrior-leader is expected to restore steadiness and uphold kṣatriya-dharma—meeting danger directly rather than allowing panic to dissolve responsibility and order.
As Kaurava forces (with Duryodhana) begin to flee, Karṇa notices the retreat and instructs Śalya, the king of Madra, to drive toward Bhīma’s chariot—signaling an attempt to counterattack and check the rout by engaging Bhīma.
