sañjaya uvāca | dhanurvisphārayan ghoraṃ pariveṣīva bhāskaraḥ | śalyas tu hayānāṃ raśmīn hastena jagrāha | tasmin rathe niṣaṇṇaḥ karṇo bhīmaṃ dhanurvisphārya śuśubhe, yathā sūryamaṇḍale pariveṣaḥ |
قال سنجيا: إنَّ كارنا، جالسًا على تلك العربة، مدَّ قوسه الرهيب وحرّك وتره حتى دوّى، فأشرق كالشمس يحيط بها هالة. وفي الوقت نفسه أمسك شاليا بزمام الخيل بيده. ويُبرز المشهدُ بهاءَ الحرب الكئيب: لمعانَ البأس ونُذُرَ الشؤم يظهران معًا، إذ تُقرَن إرادةُ الإنسان ومهارتُه بعربةٍ تمضي نحو عنفٍ قد كُتِب بالقدر.
