drau-padī ca parikliṣṭā tathā dharmeṇa sātyake | sātyake! sarvaprathamaṃ pāṇḍuputro yudhiṣṭhiro 'dharmapūrvakaṃ chālitaḥ | punaḥ adharmenaiva drau-padī apamānitā |
قال دْهْرِشْتَديومْنَة: «ودراوبدي أيضًا قاست بلاءً شديدًا، يا ساتْيَكي. ساتْيَكي! أولًا خُدِعَ يُدْهِشْتِهيرا ابنُ باندو بخديعةٍ تخالف الدارما؛ ثم، وبالآدهارما نفسها، أُخضِعَت دراوبدي للإهانة.»
धृष्टह्युम्न उवाच
The verse frames the origins of the war’s moral outrage: when foundational norms of dharma are violated—through deceit against Yudhiṣṭhira and the public humiliation of Draupadī—social order collapses and righteous retaliation becomes ethically charged.
Dhṛṣṭadyumna reminds Sātyaki of the earlier injustices done to the Pāṇḍavas: Yudhiṣṭhira was first tricked by unrighteous means, and then Draupadī was dishonored—events invoked to justify the intensity of the present conflict.
