Drauṇi’s Vow and the Description of the Nārāyaṇāstra
teṣu rāja-sahasreṣu tāvakeṣu pareṣu ca | eka eva jvalan tasthau vṛṣasenaḥ pratāpavān ||

The verse emphasizes how exceptional courage and presence can stand out even amid vast armies. Ethically, it reflects the Mahābhārata’s recurring tension: martial excellence (kṣātra-tejas) is admired, yet it operates within the tragic machinery of war where individual brilliance does not necessarily imply moral rightness.
Sanjaya describes the battlefield scene: among countless kings on both sides, Vṛṣasena is portrayed as the single conspicuously radiant warrior, standing firm and shining with valor, drawing attention as a prominent champion in the ongoing combat.
