Even within the harsh frame of war, the episode highlights a strategic ethic: disabling an opponent’s means and symbols of combat (chariot parts, banner, parasol, horses) can be a form of controlled force—asserting dominance and breaking morale without focusing solely on slaughter.
Sañjaya reports that Karna, after countering the kings’ arrows, releases fearsome arrows bearing his own name and strikes their chariots’ yokes and shafts, along with their royal insignia (parasols and banners) and horses, thereby crippling their mobility and prestige on the battlefield.
