Duryodhana’s Appeal to Karna — The Kripa–Karna Dialogue
yoḍhayat pṛthivīṁ sarvāṁ rathenaikena vīryavān | taṁ sūta-tanayaṁ yuddhe kathaṁ bhīmo hy ayodhayat ||
The verse highlights how reputation and past achievements intensify moral and narrative scrutiny in war: when a famed hero is opposed, the listener is led to examine not only who wins, but the manner of fighting—courage, strategy, and adherence to warrior conduct.
Sañjaya, narrating events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, frames a key combat episode by emphasizing Karṇa’s celebrated prowess (“conquered the earth with a single chariot”) and asks how Bhīma managed to fight such an opponent on the battlefield.
