Abhimanyu’s assault; Alambusa’s counter-engagement

tāvakānāṃ pareṣāṃ ca saṃgrāmeṣv anivartinām | mahārāja! us samaya rakṣakair dvārā sarvato ghirā huye ghaṭotkaca-ko chhoḍakara saṃgrāmeṃ kabhī pīṭha na dikhāne-vāle āpake tathā śatru-pakṣa ke un mahāmanasvī yoddhāoṃ meṃ bhārī yuddha chiḍa gayā |

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the kṣatriya ideal of steadfastness in battle—warriors who do not retreat (anivartin) and do not 'show their back'—framing courage and resolve as a valued martial ethic, even amid the tragic inevitability of war.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that, apart from the episode involving Ghaṭotkaca being encircled by protectors, a major clash breaks out between the Kaurava forces and the opposing army—both sides composed of determined, high-spirited fighters.
