Duryodhana’s Visit to Bhīṣma’s Camp and the Command Appeal
samabhyāśagatasya ājau tasya khaḍgena durmateḥ | ciccheda kārmukaṃ dīptaṃ śarāvāpaṃ ca satvaram ||

In a dharma-oriented battle, skill and restraint can be expressed by disabling an opponent’s means of harm (bow and quiver) rather than pursuing needless slaughter; swift discernment and proportional force are praised.
As the rākṣasa closes in, Irāvān responds immediately with his sword, severing the enemy’s shining bow and quiver, effectively disarming him in the midst of combat.
