Bhīṣma-nipāta-saṃvāda — Sañjaya’s Report of Bhīṣma’s Fall (भीष्मनिपातसंवादः)
आशंंसे5हं परं त्राणं भीष्माच्छान्तनुनन्दनात् । मुझे शान्तनुनन्दन भीष्मसे अपने पक्षके परित्राणकी बड़ी आशा थी। इस समय अपने पुत्रके शोकसे संतप्त होकर मैं महान् दुःखसे चिन्तित हो उठा हूँ ।।
āśaṃse ’haṃ paraṃ trāṇaṃ bhīṣmāc chāntanunandanāt |
قال دِهْرِتَرَاشْتْرَا: «لقد علّقتُ أسمى رجائي في النجاة والحماية على بِهِيشْمَا، ابنِ شَانْتَنُو الحبيب. غير أنّي الآن، وقد أحرقتني لوعةُ الحزن على ابني، قد غمرني الأسى—وثقلَ عقلي بحزنٍ عظيمٍ وقلقٍ لا يفارقني».
धृतराष्ट उवाच
The verse highlights how reliance on worldly power and even the greatest warrior cannot shield one from the consequences of attachment and the moral weight of war; grief and anxiety arise when one’s hopes are bound to outcomes rather than dharma.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra, hearing battlefield news, recalls that he had trusted Bhīṣma as the Kauravas’ supreme safeguard; but he is now consumed by sorrow for his son and falls into deep worry, signaling the emotional collapse behind his earlier confidence.
