Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the dharmic norm of honoring elders and leaders (especially a revered commander like Bhīṣma). Even when political motives are complex, proper conduct—salutation, deference, and decorum—remains a visible marker of legitimacy and kingship.

A principal figure approaches Bhīṣma, offers respectful salutation, and then takes an eminent seat—the luxurious Sarvatobhadra throne—signaling a formal audience and the gravity of counsel or decision-making in the lead-up to conflict.
