Educational Q&A

The verse defines buddhi (intellect) by vyavasāya—firm determination and decisive ascertainment. Thoughts may arise in the mind, but the intellect is known by its capacity to conclude, choose, and settle on a course with clarity.

Vāyudeva is speaking in a didactic context, offering a definition of the inner faculties. He distinguishes the mind’s role in thinking from the intellect’s role in arriving at certainty, emphasizing discernment as a moral and practical guide.
