सम्मोहोऊज्ञानमत्याग: कर्मणामविनिर्णय: । स्वप्न: स्तम्भो भयं लोभ: स्वत: सुकृतदूषणम्
vāyudeva uvāca | sammoho 'jñānam atyāgaḥ karmaṇām avinirṇayaḥ | svapnaḥ stambho bhayaṁ lobhaḥ svataḥ sukṛtadūṣaṇam | tatra tatra niyamyante sarve te tāmasā guṇāḥ |
قال فايُو: «الضلال، والجهل، ورفض التخلّي، والعجز عن الحكم على الأفعال، والنوم والخمول، وشلل الإرادة، والخوف، والطمع، واعتيادُ التماس العيب حتى في الأعمال الصالحة التي يأتي بها المرء—كل ذلك وما شابهه تحكمه صفة الظلمة: تَمَس (tamas). ومن جهة الأخلاق فهذه هي العلامات التي يُعرَف بها تمس: تُعمي التمييز، وتُوهِن العزم، وتصدّ الإنسان عن السلوك القويم.»
