Attempt to Dissuade Kuntī; Commencement of Forest Residence
इयं च राज्ञो मगधाधिपस्य सुता जरासन्ध इति श्रुतस्य । यवीयसो माद्रवतीसुतस्य भार्या मता चम्पकदामगौरी,साथ ही यह जो चम्पाकी मालाके समान गौरवर्णवाली सुन्दरी बैठी हुई है, यह सुविख्यात मगधनरेश जरासंधकी पुत्री एवं माद्रीके छोटे पुत्र सहदेवकी भार्या है
iyaṁ ca rājño magadhādhipasya sutā jarāsandha iti śrutasya | yavīyaso mādravatīsutasya bhāryā matā campakadāmagaurī ||
قال سانجيا: «وهذه السيدة الفاتحة اللون، المتلألئة كإكليل زهور التشامباكا (campaka)، معروفة بأنها ابنة جاراسندها (Jarāsandha)، الملك الشهير وسيد ماغدها (Magadha). وهي تُعدّ زوجة سهاديڤا (Sahadeva)، الابن الأصغر المولود من مادري (Mādrī).»
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the dharmic importance of correctly recognizing persons through lineage and lawful relationships (wifehood, parentage). In the Ashramavāsika setting, such identification also serves remembrance and accountability—connecting individuals to the moral and political histories of their houses.
Sanjaya is identifying a seated woman by describing her appearance and then stating her family and marital ties: she is the daughter of Jarāsandha, ruler of Magadha, and the wife of Sahadeva, the younger son of Mādrī.
