व्यासश्न भगवान्‌ नित्यमासांचक्रे नृपेण ह । कथा: कुर्वन्‌ पुराणर्षिदिवर्षिपित्रक्षसाम्‌

Transliteration

vaiśampāyana uvāca | vyāsaś ca bhagavān nityam āsāṃ cakre nṛpeṇa ha | kathāḥ kurvan purāṇarṣidevarṣipitṛrakṣasām ||

Translation

قال فايشامبايانا: كان الجليل فياسا يجيء على الدوام فيجلس مع الملك. ولتهدئة خاطره وإرشاده إلى حياة الكفّ والانضباط، كان يروي له حكاياتٍ قديمة عن حكماء العصور الأولى، وعن الديفارشي، وعن البِتْر (أرواح الأسلاف)، وعن الرّاكشاسا—قصصًا تضع آلام البشر ضمن نظامٍ أخلاقيّ وكونيّ أوسع.
